Black Dragon is a very imaginative story. The main character, Weldon, is a tween-age boy living in the inner city in New York. He gets caught up in an adventure trying to save the life of a boy who has lost his memory.
I really enjoyed the way the author wove the story between two different worlds and used the drawings of Weldon to affect the events going on around him. The author also did a great job of keeping the dialog of the various characters consistent throughout the story, though some spoke with a ghetto flair and other had more educated speech.
Weldon was a typical boy, not loving school, instead wanting to draw all the time (his version of playing). His character, though he struggled with not wanting to obey some of the rules his parents set down, is admirable as he cared for those around him and was dedicated to doing what he felt was the right thing.
I was surprised by the reveal of who Tom is and who it was trying to kill him. The hints that were given throughout the story were given at just the right pace and had me changing my mind in what I thought I would discover at the end.
