One of my earliest memories is visiting a fairy tale theme park, bumping my head, and having Alice in Wonderland escort my parents and me to the nurse. Luckily, it was just a little cut, and therefore I wasn’t delusional and under the assumption that she was bringing me to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Years later, I remember telling a co-worker that story when she was planning a family trip to the same park and she couldn’t stop laughing. I guess the image of me whacking my head and Alice in Wonderland rescuing me is somewhat amusing. (though if I’d had a concussion, not so much.)
Apparently, I was destined to make theme parks sound funny. A few years ago, I wrote the first book in my Storybook Valley chick lit/sweet romance series, Fooling Around With Cinderella, and I’ve just released book two in the series, Prancing Around With Sleeping Beauty. Storybook Valley is a fictional, family-owned theme park in the Catskills of New York. Visitors can meet characters including Dazzle the Dragon, the Gingerbread Man, Cinderella, Prince Charming, and Red Riding Hood.
They can tour Cinderella’s castle, ride the Fairy Tale Express train around the park, and enjoy attractions like the Puss in Boots Corn Maze, Rapunzel’s Tower Twirl, the Wolf Run roller coaster, and the Little Red Hen Bakery. Storybook Valley isn’t based on one theme park, but is a compilation of several. It’s a little Disney, a little Six Flags, and is heavily inspired by a few children’s theme parks that I loved growing up and that my kids also found special. Many readers have written to me, telling me how the descriptions brought them back to their childhood.
Storybook Valley also has a grown-up element to it, since couples have a tendency to fall in love there, like Jaine, the park’s reluctant Cinderella. She fell for her boss Dylan, the son of the owners. And in book two, Dylan’s sister Rory (Aurora) has a forbidden romance with the grandson of her family’s archrival. It’s a combination of sweet romance and humorous chick lit, as it’s hard to get too serious when you’re writing about carousels, gingerbread cookies, and storybook houses with gabled rooftops.
And the gnomes. Let’s not forget about the gnomes. So, if you’re in the mood for laughs, romance, and a literary vacation, then I invite you to stop by Storybook Valley. If you read the books, I’d love to hear what you think!

his Sleeping Beauty isn’t sure she wants to wake up…
Dance instructor Rory Callahan likes to play it safe. When she meets Kyle, he’s impulsive, persistent, and her exact opposite. He’s pushing her to tango way past her comfort zone and keeping Rory on her toes more than twenty years of dance teachers ever had.
Unfortunately, he’s the grandson of her family’s archrival and she doesn’t want to disappoint them. After all, her parents imagine her as a proper princess - hence her namesake Aurora, AKA Sleeping Beauty. Complicating matters, Rory’s also dealing with a surgeon boyfriend who’s perfect for her (sort of), an obnoxious boss, and desperate dance moms. Kyle wants to change her whole life, but Rory doesn’t like the stakes. After all, princesses are the ones who get the happy endings. . .aren’t they?
This sweet romantic comedy is a standalone and can be read on its own. All books in the series can be read in any order so jump in at any time.Welcome to Storybook Valley...Your Vacation Escape
