Just a couple months ago, my friend, Jean, discovered a lump. And sure enough, the doctors confirmed. It is cancer.
Despite the aggressive nature of this insidious disease, Jean has been a trooper! Her attitude through the battle has been one of trust in the Lord. Though she is exhausted, she brightens the lives of the doctors and nurses who are working with her, making them smile and laugh, and she spreads joy to those around her.
While we don’t have any idea how successful her treatments will be, or even when she will be well enough to have another chemo session (she has had to miss a few in a row), we know that she will be victorious. She is a child of God, believing that Jesus died for her sins and rose from the dead. This cancer is only temporary. And neither it nor anything else, can separate her from the love of Christ!
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Dear friend, if you are God’s child, then this applies to you as well. No matter what battles you are fighting, the victory is yours as well! Stand strong, take courage, and trust in the Lord.

There is a Facebook group for readers of Love Inspired books and they many giveaways for books. I won one of them and was given the choice of any of the August releases. It was a hard choice, but I decided to select one from an author who is new to me, A Soldier’s Prayer. I wasn’t sure what to expect and saw that there weren’t many reviews but it sounded intriguing.
Wow! I was so touched by the depth of emotion in this story! The grief of Cash’s nephew, Owen, had left him with selective mutism. I loved the way this precious five-year-old latched onto Monica and how she was so determined to help him if it was at all possible. Putting aside her own need for isolation to deal with the news of cancer that had her reeling, she helped Cash with the boys.
What I loved the most about this story was the spiritual aspect. As Cash and Monica struggled with age-old questions about how a God of love could allow grief and suffering, the truths shared were not trite. Nor did author Jenna Mindel make the process easy for anyone, instead bringing them through a realistic journey of discovery.
If you enjoy reading sweet romances with life changing truths, I recommend you read A Soldier’s Prayer. And you will probably, along with me, then want to read many more books by her!
