A leather-bound journal. A single father. A woman in pursuit of freedom.

Garner Bradford, heir to the troubled Bradford Shipping empire, doesn't know much about babies. But he's going to have to learn fast because he's just become a single father to his newborn daughter. As he confesses through his journal entries, he's not entirely sure how to keep a newborn alive, whether or not he'll ever patch together his shattered heart, or how to forgive himself for his mistakes.

Career girl Kathleen Burke is wholly uninterested in settling down. She has big dreams, and none of them include Garner and his small hometown in Washington State. Yet she can't seem to get her handsome boss out of her head or her heart. There's something extraordinarily tempting about his beautifully sad green eyes. . . .

Told through journal entries, phone conversations, and letters, Then Came You is a unique, heart-stirring romance novella by acclaimed author Becky Wade.

Also in this series: Falling for You, Sweet on You

Then Came You was written in an unusual format, postcards, letters, phone calls and journal entries.  I think I have read other books that have been written mostly in journal formats, but don’t remember feeling so much like it worked.  The author did such a great job in pulling these things together to make a cohesive story that was interesting.  Well done, Becky Wade!

The story started out rather tragically, with Garner’s girlfriend walking out on him and their daughter.  After that was another tragedy.  The beginning was a little grim to set the stage for Garner’s over-protectiveness and fear of opening his heart.

This book is the first of a series, but it does stand alone.  I am looking forward to reading the books about the Bradford sisters, who are introduced here.

Before I had finished the first page, I was double-checking that the author is a Christian author and that the book was Clean Romance.  Once I had confirmed that, I was able to continue the story.  Just a warning that there is mention of his girlfriend undressing Garner (not in detail!) and that they had a sexual relationship outside of marriage.  It is mentioned that he was ashamed of his behavior and afraid of censure by those in the church, but not that he ever felt it was wrong and needed repentance.
