I am excited about this opportunity I had to review a new worship DVD by Hillsong Kids. And to give a copy of the CD version to one lucky winner.
Here is what the DVD is all about:
“Can You Believe It!? – Songs of Truth” is both a question and a challenge… a statement of gratitude to a loving God and an invitation to explore the very foundations of faith. Classic songs like “My Best Friend”, “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” and “What A Beautiful Name” join brand new declarations of faith such as “As The World Shakes” & “Heaven Is Our Home”. We pray that this collection of fun and vibrant songs, help children around the world to declare biblical truths about God’s love and grace for them.
Hillsong believes that teaching children to love God and others takes place in both the home and in the church. For this reason they seek to partner with parents (the greatest teachers of all!) and with church pastors and leaders, equipping them with great resources. Through fun experiences, meaningful music and ministry that encourages kids to participate, Hillsong Kids presents Jesus Christ and His Church in a relevant way, creating moments which children will never forget.
The music and videos appear to be aimed at elementary through high school aged kids. I had originally thought to use it with my Sunday School class and while the songs are great for that, the videos are a little old for my pre-school and kindergartners.
There are music videos for some of the songs, song videos with lyrics displayed in eye-catching fashion, and live studio videos. In addition to these, there are a few videos with Funny Man Dan (FMD) which are silly, but not crack up and laugh out loud (at least not to this adult!) The focus of the FMD segments are teaching some truths about God in a fun way.
While the videos feature kids who appear to be in the eight to thirteen age group, the musicians look to be adults and high-schoolers with a backup chorus of younger teens. In listening to the songs, I can’t tell that the singers are not adults except in certain places where the younger voices stand out a little more.
The quality of them music and videos on the DVD are exactly what you would expect from Hillsong, excellent. Some of the songs are familiar to me and some are new. All are catchy and worshipful. Some of the songs are ones that are part of the adult Hillsong worship collections, others appear to be written specifically for children.
