Coffee Shop Devos: Daily Devotional Pick-Me-Ups for Teen Girls
by Tessa Emily Hall

Published by Bethany House Publishers
Publication Date September 18, 2018
Genres: Devotional
Written for: Middle School, High-School/Young Adult
Pages: 400

Synopsis:

There's something special about spending time at a coffee shop with a friend--engaging in a meaningful conversation, then leaving refueled and ready to tackle the rest of the day. What if your quiet times with God energized you the same way?

Coffee Shop Devos offers a warm atmosphere that will inspire you to discover your God-given purpose and live to your greatest potential. Choose your devo flavor in the Menu of Contents based on your current need. Then lean into deeper intimacy with Christ through reflection and prayer. Along the way, you'll pick up tips and recipes for making your own coffee-shop beverage--regular or decaf--to enjoy while you read. And don't forget to share your journey with your friends! #CoffeeShopDevos

Each of the 180 challenging and motivational devotions will leave you feeling refreshed and reinvigorated--almost as though you've shared a steaming pot of brew at a coffee shop with your Creator.

The synopsis of the book calls it “a warm atmosphere” and I have to agree with that. The style of each entry is friendly and down-to-earth. Each devotion has the following sections:

  • Scripture to sip on
  • Let’s chat about it
  • Let’s think about it
  • Let’s pray about it
  • Today’s dare
  • A shot of inspiration
  • Join the convo

Each reading has a single Bible verse and then encouragement related to that verse and challenges to help deepen your relationship with God. I like the “Join the convo” idea. Each day there is a discussion question that you are encouraged to answer on social media (along with a picture of your drink of the day). So you can converse with others about how God is working in your life. Nice!

The devotionals are grouped in such a way to make it easy to find what you need for the day. Some examples of the groupings are:

  • Latte – Comfort in Trials
  • Coffee – Motivation for the Journey
  • Frappe – Encouragement to Be Yourself
  • Decaf – Finding Rest

As a bonus for those of you who actually drink coffee, there are a number of recipes for making your own.

Just remember, ladies, that a single Bible verse each day is not enough to feed your spirit and keep you strong. Use this book, get encouragement from it, but please do not let it replace daily reading of Scripture on your own!

About Tessa Emily Hall

Tessa Emily Hall writes inspirational yet authentic books for teens to show them they’re not alone—and because she remembers the teen life like it was yesterday (or a few years ago). In addition to being a frequent contributor to both online and print publications, Tessa’s debut novel was published while still in her teens. She’s the founder and editor-in-chief of PursueMagazine.net, a Christian teen magazine, and enjoys mentoring other young writers. She’s guilty of making way too many lattes and never finishing her to-read list.
