I have had a tab open on my browser for two or three weeks with this book on it. Maybe longer. Each time I looked at it, I thought “I don’t have time to read this.” “Too many books I’m committed to read right now.” “I can’t close that tab because I don’t want to forget about this book.”
Then, this afternoon, I had this odd window of time open, and while looking at the next book I should be reading, I saw this again. Yeah. I couldn’t resist. And thanks to Kindle Unlimited, I was able to grab it for free. Yay!
I am often torn about how much is too much to pay for a novella. I can get a full-length book for $.99. And I’ll be done so quickly. Friends, don’t hesitate. In fact, if you prefer paperbacks, just buy it.

Main Character Ages: 25-34

Equine veterinarian Aubrey Jones has put her past with country boy turned NFL star Cooper Rockwell far behind her. When she receives a summons to tend to the rescued animals on Donkey Island, she jumps at the chance. Never in a million years would she imagine that she will run smack into Cooper on the island, just as a storm rolls in which makes it impossible to escape. Donkeys, downpours, and a delectable man who broke her heart long ago? Aubrey is in for one wild rendezvous!
This novella was amazing. I was captivated from the start and felt almost as if I were Jane heading to the Rochester estate. With the pending storm, the mysterious mansion, it just had that inescapable feel. . .
I’ll be brief so my review isn’t longer than the book. I connected with the story right away and my heart was torn along with Aubrey’s as she was confronted with Cooper. Stranded with Cooper without electricity, without phone service, in a heavy storm, and having to search for missing donkeys. While the story would have worked without insight into Cooper’s thoughts and feelings, it would have probably lacked some of the depth that his voice provided.
As with most of Dana Mentink’s books, this was just the right blend of mystery and romance with humor sprinkled appropriately throughout.
I highly recommend Donkey Island Rendezvous for anyone looking for a quick, romantic mystery to read.
