Ellie Claire Devotional Journals – Review

Posted December 10, 2018 by Phyllis Helton in Product Review / 0 Comments

I have a few more Ellie Claire journals to share with you.

Friends, I would be remiss if I didn’t remind you that these devotionals should not be used as a substitute for regular Bible reading. Find a good Bible reading plan, and stick to it. Try to read every day if you are able. As the Sunday School song says:

Read your Bible, pray every day, pray every day, pray every day
Read your Bible, pray every day, and you’ll grow, grow grow

My thoughts on the journals apply to all three, so I will first show you the details and then will let you know my review for them.

Each of these journals has a lovely presentation page. Each page of the journals contains visual elements that tie it to the cover design. While I like the subtle greens of the Peace Begins with Me journal, the peacocks on the The Earth is the Lord’s journal are simply lovely making that my favorite. Personally, the colors on the Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus journal are not my favorites, but that is personal opinion and I am sure I have many readers who will prefer this one.

These are devotional journals, each one having inspirational thoughts on the top half of the pages and room to journal at the bottom. Each has a page per day of the year, including one February 29. There is no indication of day of week or year, so they can be used whenever you like. Each journal has an elastic band attached to hold the book closed and which could also be used to mark a page. There is also a ribbon bookmark that coordinates nicely.

Now, I hope you’re not surprised that I have not read every one of the devotionals in these journals. Hey, I heard that gasp! I have read more than a handful from each one, however. The thoughts are a lovely way to whet your appetite for more, hopefully inspiring you to dig deeper in your relationship with the Lord. As with the visuals on the pages, the devotionals also carry on the theme of the journal with the peacock journal (The Earth is the Lord’s) contains devotionals that pull observations from nature and tie them to the Bible.

The one thing that caused me to take away a half star on the Peace Begins with Me journal is that it does not quite lay flat. This is the case with all three of the journals – it is quite pronounced at the beginning and ending parts of it and not quite as obvious when it is opened near the middle. I have spent a little time opening and pressing down on the pages to get them to lay more flat, and that did help. And it appears that the binding can hold up well to that. Originally, I was not going to take away from the rating because they are still very usable and easy to write in as they are, unlike the Journable that I reviewed last year. Yet when I read the description, if is described as having a lay-flat binding, so there you have it.
