I love worshiping the Lord and always wish the time we spend in worship at church would go on much longer than it does. The majority of the music I listen to falls in the Praise and Worship category and my husband and I listen to a great variety of styles within that genre.
Today, I have a unique opportunity to share my thoughts with you about Chris Tomlin’s newest CD release, HOLY ROAR. Before I give you my thoughts, let me tell you a little about this CD.
As the songwriter behind the worship favorites ‘How Great Is Our God,’ ‘Our God,’ and ‘Whom Shall I Fear,’ Chris Tomlin’s songs have been a large part of the collective voice from the church for years. Holy Roar is a response to that collective voice. Featuring ‘Resurrection Power’ and the new single ‘Nobody Loves Me Like You,’ this brand-new album has songs written specifically for the church that run the spectrum of worship from personal reflections to shouts of praise. Coming alongside Holy Roar is the re-release of the book of the same name, co-written by Tomlin and Darren Whitehead, pastor of Church of the City in Franklin, TN.
The concept of HOLY ROAR is:
the freedom, the experience, the wonder of worship. It is seeing the church come together, hands lifted to God, pouring out our praise with an eternal song in our hearts. It’s every voice together, changing the way we worship.
While I am familiar with some of the songs on this CD, most of them are new to me. The songs are what I have come to expect from Chris Tomlin: worshipful. My favorite is a song called “Goodness, Love and Mercy” that is based on Psalm 23. It has quite a different sound from the others with a strong emphasis on the keyboard. That song is now stuck in my head, which is not a bad thing at all.
