Appy, a beautiful Harlequin Great Dane, was a rescue dog we had when I was growing up. This gentle girl was my baby and my dear friend. She was convinced that every living creature was her friend and wanted to frolic with her. She snapped at bees to play and chased after lizards – digging moats to try to get them from their holes – or maybe to join them in the hole. All in her desire to get them to play. (The poor thing never figured out where that bee disappeared to and why her mouth hurt so much!)
When I got a new kitten, Gracie, Appy quickly adopted her. They ate together out of Appy’s huge bowl, slept together, and played together. Talk about adorable!
I’ll never forget the time I saw Gracie walking down the hallway only to have Appy pin her to the ground with her big paw. I was stunned and just watched for a minute, doing nothing. The next thing I knew, Appy was nipping at Gracie, cleaning her with her mouth! I was about to rescue my kitty when a loud rumble came from their general direction. Gracie was purring as loud as I recall ever having heard her before!! When Gracie’s bath was over, she was soaked from head to tail. Eww! And aww!
Do you have any pets that formed unusual friendships like this?

Bullets flying. Cars rolling. Danger from an unknown source hounded Mara as she searched the clues to explain a text she received.
Once again, Dana Mentink has written a sweet, gripping, sensitive, and romantic mystery. The story worked and flowed well.
Levi and Mara were great together! Each had a secret crush on the other in the past, but their relationship started out on rocky ground as the story began. Mara’s distrust of Levi and his motives was clear…
I really enjoyed the other aspects of the story as well but wanted to point out how much I loved Banjo, the wounded dog who adopted Levi. And Tiny, the kitten Banjo adopted. And the shy, injured Rabbit who came for food but kept away from Banjo!
Readers of inspirational romantic suspense will enjoy the Desert Justice series. Be sure to read all the books in order!
