He may not be perfect...but he's perfect for her!

Ryan DeMeres is definitely enjoying the perks of being Sweetheart Ranch's new wrangler - the best is working with head chef Bridget O'Malley. He's fallen head over spurs for the talented and determined beauty. There's just one hiccup - Bridget is holding out for Mr Right, and Ryan doesn't quite meet her requirements. But he's determined to win Bridget over, because though he may not be perfect, maybe their love could be.

I would like to thank Prism Book Tours for giving me this copy of the book. This gift did not influence my opinion or review.

Bridget determined not to make a mistake in the choice of her future spouse, and therefore she has compiled a list of exactly what she is looking for. And Ryan knows that he doesn’t want to have his family struggle financially as his own parents did, so he is determined to not marry until he is financially secure.

You know, “best-laid plans”, right?

I really appreciated the fact that the author didn’t make Ryan a playboy just because he wasn’t ready to settle down. His sense of humor and playfulness made him a fun hero. His deep love for his family and desire to help his parents made him even more appealing.

Bridget’s attempts at flirting with the local doctor were cute. The fact that she was not an experienced flirt made her more likable and relatable. It was fun to see her obsession with food and presentation and the things that she did to make the meals at the ranch memorable.

One scene I particularly enjoyed was when Bridget was giving Ryan a tour of the ranch and brought him to the golf cart. His reaction and the ensuing teasing was cute.

Bridget was a little bit judgmental. She assumed things about Ryan based on what she saw and knew, and he didn’t come out very favorably. She was also a bit obsessed with her biological clock ticking away – with more mentions than seemed necessary for me to understand her concern.

The story did drag in a few places and a couple of descriptions of things made me want to skip over them. One instance listed items on the menu. Later, this got better with the way meals were described.

Though this is part of a series, I didn’t feel lost not having read other books by this author.

If you are looking for a light-hearted cowboy romance, this could be a good book to consider.

The Story behind Bridget’s List of Dating Non-Negotiables

There’s a saying about authors putting themselves in their books, and I think that’s sometimes true. At least, a little. Authors certainly draw from their own experiences, are inspired by people they meet and places they go, and tap into their emotions to create compelling characters and heart-wrenching scenes. In THE COYBOY’S PERFERT MATCH, Bridget O’Malley is looking for Mr. Right and has created a list of twelve dating non-negotiables. It includes things like a decent job, family orientated, and owns his own home. While Ryan DeMeres checks off a few of the items on her list, he falls seriously short, and Bridget has convinced herself that, despite their instant and undeniable attraction, he’s not the guy for her. Instead, she’s going to make a play for the local doctor and make a fool of herself in the process.

So, where am I going with this? Yes, you’ve guessed it. When I started dating ten years ago after my first marriage ended, I came up with a list of five dating non-negotiables. Funny thing was, I’d meet men who satisfied every item on my list, yet I didn’t feel any chemistry with them. Not a bit. I’d tell myself to give them a chance, that, on paper, they had a lot going for them and were exactly what I was looking for in a potential partner. Didn’t matter, the spark never materialized (spoiler alert: same thing happens to Bridget in the book).

Five years ago, I finally decided to trash my list of dating non-negotiables. It wasn’t working anyway. I decided to look for only one thing in a man: that instant, feel-it-clear-to-my-toes, attraction. A month later, I attended my high school reunion. There, I ran into Mike, someone I knew in high school but never dated and hadn’t seen in many years. Can you tell where this story is going? Yes, I felt that instant attraction with him─clear to the very tips of my toes. We’ve been together ever since and got married two years ago last December. And here’s the interesting part, Mike met all five items on my list, and I wasn’t even looking for that.

Is Bridget going to figure out the same thing with Ryan, that what really matters is one heart instantly recognizing their other half? Sorry, I’m not going to tell you, but the book is a romance, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed J
