Their friendship can survive almost anything…
For two best friends,
marriage could be their greatest test yet…
Trinity Davis must not have heard firefighter Omar Young correctly. Did her handsome widowed best friend just suggest they get married? Omar needs a mom for his adorable little girls, and it’ll fix Trinity’s financial woes. But saying “I do” isn’t just business. Especially when the only vow they’re in danger of breaking is their promise to not fall in love…

I’ve read a few modern marriage-of-convenience stories in the past few years and enjoy the perspectives of why a couple might marry in this day and age without love. I have also enjoyed seeing the dynamics of how a couple learns to not just honor their spouse but to love them as well. So, naturally, I was very curious to see how Toni Shiloh would handle this…
As I have come to expect from her stories, An Unlikely Proposal had a strong focus on spiritual issues Trinity and Omar faced. How can you really know what God’s will is when it is related to something that isn’t clearly spelled out in the Bible? I loved that they sought older, respected people in their lives for insight instead of just jumping in and doing what they thought was best. And I especially loved that Omar’s relationship with his former father-in-law was so close and that they respected each other as they did.
I especially appreciated that the way the focus was on the loneliness Omar and Trinity experienced as a married-in-name-only couple and on their relationship instead of a growing physical attraction. It was made clear, without stating it outright, that there was a bond that grew from friendship to a deeper kind of love. Their journey was fraught with difficulties as they had to navigate a brand-new type of relationship. My heart ached for Trinity, especially, as she tried not to overstep her bounds and yet needed to feel like a wife and not a guest!
Omar’s daughters added both stress and humor to the story. They were adorable and full of trouble! And instead of making Trinity into an insta-supermom, she struggled with fitting into their lives as they had to learn a new normal and develop a new relationship with her. And, oh, how I laughed at the bath incident!!
