Published by Toni Shiloh
Publication Date August 17, 2018
Genres: Christian Fiction, Clean Romance
Setting: Indiana Contemporary
Main Character Ages: 25-34
Written for: Adults

Synopsis:

There’s only one thing Chloe Smith has ever wanted: family. Yet the DNA results she’s received have thrown her life into a tailspin. Her utmost desire has ended up being the catalyst for shaking her faith. She doesn’t even know who she is anymore, and she’s certainly too messed up for her longtime crush to give her more than a second glance.

Darryl Jones is struggling between his past and the grace God so freely offers. His sins feel too big for him to handle, let alone expect the woman of his dreams to accept. Chloe is the only woman he’s ever wanted and the one he doesn’t deserve.

As they form a tentative relationship and examine their faith, Chloe and Darryl ache to know they are finally accepted and fully loved.

I would like to thank Celebrate Lit for giving me this copy of the book. This gift did not influence my opinion or review.

Can two broken and abandoned people ever find acceptance?

I have come to expect deeply touching stories from Toni Shiloh. She has a knack for wrapping her characters around my heart and having me feel their pain and cheer for their victories. Finally Accepted did not disappoint.

As Chloe and Darryl fought to deal with their abandonment issues and Darryl with his overwhelming guilt, I was drawn to their struggles. Seeing Darryl grasp the concept of being “chosen before the foundation of the world” and learning about acceptance and true forgiveness was only the start. Watching him grow in his faith was encouraging and as often is the case with new believers, convicting.

Chloe had faith struggles and questions about where she belonged, especially after discovering the truth about who her father was. Like so many of us who have been Christians any length of time, she struggled with her image of God and why He would allow her to suffer.

Rich and timeless truths were shared in such a natural and beautiful way.

One of the things I enjoyed in the story is the way the author created such tension between the characters – merely by having them in the same room. The way Chloe was slightly awkward and either ran on at the mouth or couldn’t think of a thing to say. The way that Darryl’s palms got sweaty just being around her. Theirs was an endearing love born out of years of friendship.

Finally Accepted was full of painful situations and a huge need for forgiveness. There are parts related to domestic violence, so be aware of that if it might be a problem area for you. All these are handled tactfully and without details that aren’t necessary to the story.

It has been a while since I have read the other books in the Freedom Lake series so I had forgotten some of the details. I did not feel lost and while it might have been good to re-read those before starting this one, this story easily stands alone.
