The one woman he wants is the one he cannot have.
Former foster kid Sebastian Grant has leveraged his intelligence and hard work to become a pediatric heart surgeon. But not even his career success can erase the void he's tried so hard to fill. Then he meets high school teacher Leah Montgomery and his fast-spinning world comes to a sudden stop. He falls hard, only to make a devastating discovery--Leah is the woman his best friend set his heart on months before.
Leah's a math prodigy who's only ever had one big dream--to earn her Ph.D. Raising her little brother put that dream on hold. Now that her brother will soon be college-bound, she's not going to let anything stand in her way. Especially romance . . . which is far less dependable than algebra.
When Leah receives surprising results from the DNA test she submitted to a genealogy site, she solicits Sebastian's help. Together, they comb through hospital records to uncover the secrets of her history. The more powerfully they're drawn to each other, the more strongly Sebastian must resist, and the more Leah must admit that some things in life--like love--can't be explained with numbers.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. This gift did not influence my opinion or review.
Also in this series: Stay with Me , Take a Chance on Me
Having enjoyed Stay With Me so much, I was delighted to see that Let It Be Me was available to review! I’ve enjoyed the little Georgia town of Misty River, the Miracle Five, and the characters who people this series very much.
Both Sebastian and Leah have brilliant minds. I really enjoyed the banter between them and their humor. The Han Solo quotes simply added to the fun!
Sebastian was quite driven, evidenced by the fact he had become a pediatric heart surgeon at a much younger age than most. His motivation for choosing this medical field over others was quite touching. I loved the way his determination influenced his actions in so many areas of his life, including pursuing Leah. His clever way of getting her to agree to go on a date with him was a lot of fun! Yet poor Sebastian was very broken and had created a protective barrier around his heart in hopes of avoiding broken promises and pain. He struggled with trust – trusting people and trusting God. His faith journey took him on a path to realize his need for surrender and forgiveness – in a manner that may surprise you.
Leah didn’t appear to be as closed off as Sebastian was and yet she also had deep struggles with trusting others. Which, given the reason she had raised her younger brother by herself, made sense. Her need for controlling things around her was very strong and resulted in a major rift with said brother.
There many different threads to this story, each one interesting on its own, and each one cleverly followed to a satisfying conclusion.
One of the story’s threads involved the DNA results that turned Leah’s life upside down. It was fascinating to follow Leah’s search for answers and to learn about ways to track people down. I was caught off guard by what she discovered!
While Let It Be Me can be read as a stand-alone, it is designed to work as a part of the Misty River Romance series. And as I mentioned at the beginning of the review, the stories are quite enjoyable. Lovers of Christian romance will not want to miss them!
