And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.
Revelation 12:11 NLT
I grew up attending church and very clearly remember the morning in Sunday school when at age five I asked Jesus into my heart. I was so excited I wouldn’t leave my best friend alone because I wanted him to ask Jesus into his heart too.
Like most Christians I’ve had times when I was closer to the Lord than others, but I can name key events that drew me closer to Him. Through those experiences He showed me that no matter what, He is there to help me.
My husband’s parents and grandparents were all killed in a plane crash two days before my first college graduation. Because of the timing, my parents and grandparents were in town and able to be there to help my husband and I, plus we had the support and prayers of an entire school that had gathered for graduation. It was a very difficult time, but He was faithful to help us through it. We also took comfort in knowing his family served the Lord.
I realize my husband’s and my response to the tragic loss of my in-laws wasn’t necessarily the norm, but leaning on the Lord was a natural response for us.
Several years later we invested in a vacation home that we shouldn’t have—we couldn’t afford it. We needed to sell, but weren’t sure about the timing—we’d owned it less than a year. I was walking and talking with the Lord, asking Him when we should sell. I clearly heard Him say “now.” I realize this may sound nuts to many people, but I heard Him as clearly as I would anyone—that was a one-time experience that has never been repeated. Anyway, His timing was perfect! The place sold the same week we put it on the market.
Through these and many other experiences I’ve learned that He is always faithful. Yes, bad and hard things have happened, but with the Lord’s help those things have actually made me stronger in Him rather than destroyed me.
I leave you with Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not onto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will shall direct thy paths.
Thanks for inviting me to share on your lovely blog, Phyllis. Have a blessed week.
Love this, Kimberly! Love that with the Lord’s help those things have actually made you stronger in Him rather than destroyed you, and it shows in your calm, sweet spirit! I love how God has shown Himself faithful!
