Aww! Kate and Jess were so much fun! I loved their interactions – the way he wouldn’t put up with her nonsense and especially the way he wouldn’t lie for her. Not that she was trying to be cruel or sneaky or evil, she just didn’t want her brothers to know how serious her injuries were.
And I loved Kate’s gentle, though wounded, heart. Her father’s desertion when she was younger had caused her such insecurity and grief! The cruel words Jess’ father had spoken to her compounded her pain. Her brothers, who I met in the previous stories of the series, were everything I had remembered. Tucker’s comment about how she had ended up with three overprotective fathers instead of the one who left them was quite apt!
I was fascinated to read about Kate’s experience as a barrel man (also known as a bullfighter or rodeo clown.) It made me want to watch some rodeo videos!
One of the things I especially appreciated about The Cowgirl’s Sacrifice, in addition to the excellent writing, was the way the story was so engaging. Though the pain and grief of the characters were emphasized, it was done in a manner that didn’t seem repetitive or tedious. The delightful plot was enhanced by the sweet romance, not overwhelmed by it.
If you enjoy engaging romances with a touch of faith, you will want to read The Cowgirl’s Sacrifice. And while you’re at it, why not read the entire Hearts of Oklahoma series? You won’t regret it!
